PLC/DLC Boiler Supervisor

About the role

Career Directions Limited (CDL) is hiring six PLC/DLC Boiler Supervisors in Kiambu County within its Engineering department. The supervisor oversees the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of PLC/DLC-controlled boilers of about 20 TPH capacity connected to a turbine, ensuring continuous steam supply, safety compliance and effective team performance. The position reports to the Lead Cogen.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure employee safety through effective implementation of safety standards.
• Direct and supervise the operation of boilers, turbines, generators and related auxiliary equipment on shift.
• Coordinate with Engineering on electrical power production, including hourly loading, start-ups and shutdowns.
• Analyze, troubleshoot and correct plant operating problems affecting safety, environment, reliability and efficiency, and describe them in enough detail to speed repairs.
• Coordinate with maintenance and technical departments during outages and non-outages.
• Provide shift training so operators are competent, and mentor and train personnel on the job.
• Supervise routine housekeeping and ensure accurate operational records are kept.
• Prepare daily shift reports, run morning management meetings, hold daily, weekly and monthly performance reviews, set goals and hold people accountable.
• Make job assignments, complete shift documentation, direct emergency response and respond to emergencies promptly.
• Carry out planned, unplanned and life-cycle maintenance competently and safely.
• Oversee boilers and other plant machines, supervise feed hoppers, maintain correct fuel levels, mix and level fuel in the log yard with a front-end loader and check delivery trucks for unacceptable wood waste.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, plant option.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in boiler operation and maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience operating PLC/DLC-controlled boiler systems and boilers of about 20 TPH capacity.
• Hands-on experience with boilers connected to turbines, including supervision of their operation and maintenance.
