Principal Finance Officer

About the role

The National Quality Control Laboratory (NQCL) is recruiting a Principal Finance Officer for a full-time management-level position in Nairobi. The officer oversees financial planning and budgeting. Applications close on 16 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies, guidelines, standards and procedures for Finance and Accounts
• Approve payment of vouchers and commitment documents in line with regulations
• Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and evaluate revenue collection processes
• Prepare financial reports and analyse income and expenditure against budgets
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile debtors and creditors ledgers
• Prepare and review management financial reports
• Maintain accurate books and accounts and ensure safe custody of financial records, documents, cheque books and assets
• Develop budget proposals and financial plans
• Review petty cash reconciliation and oversee safe withdrawal of cash for office use

Required profile

• Cumulative 9 years of relevant work experience, including 3 years in the grade of Senior Finance Officer or a comparable position
• Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Business Management (Accounting/Finance option), Economics or an equivalent qualification
• Passed Part III of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA K)
• Membership of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or another recognised professional body in good standing
• Management course of at least 4 weeks from a recognised institution

• Proficiency in computer applications
