Principal ICT Officer

About the role

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is recruiting a Principal Information Communication Technology Officer for a full-time management-level position in Nairobi. The officer manages ICT systems, infrastructure and IT operations. The vacancy was posted on 30/10/2026 with a deadline of 13/11/2026.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with user departments and ensure ICT service delivery.
• Supervise, delegate and allocate tasks and help-desk tickets within a functional area, and mentor the ICT team.
• Plan, monitor and evaluate ICT projects.
• Develop LAN and WAN for the college, and take part in ICT policies, standards, guidelines and strategies.
• Analyse, design, develop, test, implement and monitor ICT systems, and provide advanced user support.
• Maintain and support ICT systems, train end users, repair and maintain equipment, and update websites and portals.
• Prepare technical specifications, user manuals and documentation, and prepare performance reports for ICT staff.
• Design and manage user training, train ICT staff, and contribute to the annual ICT budget.

Required profile

• Cumulative nine years of relevant work experience, including three years in the grade of Senior ICT Officer or a comparable position.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Security and Forensics, Business Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Certificate in a management course of at least four weeks from a recognised institution.
• Membership in a professional body where applicable, and demonstrated merit through work performance.

Required skills

• Professional ICT certificates in database management, information security, service support (ITIL, COBIT), network administration, system administration or software development.
• Examples include Oracle, SQL, DB2, CISSP, Security+, CISA, CISM, CCNA, MCSE, Linux, Unix, Java, Visual Studio, Python.
