Principal Process Safety Engineer (Mobile, AL)

About the role

Evonik is seeking a Principal Process Safety Engineer to join its team in Mobile, Alabama. You will provide technical process safety engineering support across divisions and business lines, ensuring safe design, construction, and operation of chemical production processes throughout their lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Perform process safety calculations such as emergency relief system design, dispersion and flammability analysis, consequence modeling, and combustible dust hazard evaluation.
• Lead and facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA) including HAZOP, PAAG, and structured What‑If studies.
• Prepare and support Hazard Identification (HazId), Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Facility Siting Analyses (FSA).
• Determine and evaluate process hazards arising from deviations and develop safety concepts for national and international production sites.
• Provide safety technical consultancy for prevention and protection concepts in production plants and investment projects.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology or Chemistry (M.Sc. or PhD preferred).
• Minimum 5 years (10 years preferred) professional experience in process safety within the chemical industry.
• Strong analytical mindset, systematic working style, and excellent English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% and to relocate to Mobile if not already residing there.
