Procurement Officer – Kakamega

About the role

The Procurement Officer will ensure timely, cost-effective and compliant acquisition of goods, services and medical supplies needed for hospital operations in Kakamega. The role supports uninterrupted patient care by maintaining quality standards and strong supplier relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement plans in coordination with department heads.
• Source, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and quality.
• Prepare and issue purchase orders according to approved budgets and policies.
• Maintain an up-to-date, pre-qualified supplier database.
• Document and file procurement records for audit and compliance.
• Monitor supplier performance and ensure timely delivery.
• Coordinate with finance for invoice verification and payment processing.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies and statutory requirements.
• Conduct market surveys and benchmarking to achieve value for money.
• Manage inventory levels with stores to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.
• Participate in tendering processes and evaluation committees as needed.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.

Required profile

• Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field.
• Membership with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role, preferably in healthcare.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
• High level of integrity and understanding of procurement ethics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (including Excel).
• Experience with procurement systems.
