Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

About the role

Canonical is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead Ubuntu Embedded Systems projects. The role is remote, supporting customers in the Americas and EMEA regions, and involves managing the full project lifecycle to meet both Canonical and client objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring timelines, resources, and scope are met.
• Coordinate engineering teams for custom board enablement and delivery of Ubuntu images.
• Develop statements of work, project schedules, and obtain client agreement on deliverables.
• Mitigate project risks, drive technical issue resolution, and maintain regular communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Track third‑party deliverables, keep management informed, and identify custom engineering requests outside existing contracts.

Required profile

• Proven project management experience delivering engineering services to customers, including software development and field engineering teams.
• Extensive experience managing cross‑cultural, multi‑continent projects, preferably with resources in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Educational background in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
• Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 Practitioner certification preferred.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours and travel up to four times a year.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of Linux and the wider Open Source Software community.
• Understanding of computer architecture.
• Experience with Ubuntu and custom board enablement.
