QA Engineer - PEO Industry & U.S. Payroll

About the role

Softgic is looking for a detail-oriented QA Engineer with strong expertise in the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) industry, U.S. payroll processing, payroll compliance and tax regulations. The role focuses on validating payroll software solutions through comprehensive testing and close collaboration with Product, Development, Payroll and Compliance teams. It is a full-time, 100% on-site position in Nairobi, with an 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Define, prepare and manage test data; validate payroll calculations, employee demographics, earnings, deductions, benefits, tax rates, tax brackets, multiple jobs and work locations.
• Review payroll outputs for compliance with U.S. federal, state and local payroll and tax regulations, and flag discrepancies, calculation errors and compliance risks.
• Run manual and regression tests, design and maintain test cases, and validate new features, bug fixes and releases.
• Identify, document, track and report defects, take part in root cause analysis and perform functional testing against business requirements.
• Develop testing strategies based on business and compliance risks, prioritizing high-risk payroll and tax functions.
• Take part in the SDLC, support Agile ceremonies, share testing progress and risks, and work with QA automation engineers to find automation opportunities.

Required profile

• 2-3 years of QA experience and at least 2 years in the PEO industry (PEO experience is highest priority).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; Computer Science or Software Engineering preferred.
• English at B2+ to C1 level, with strong verbal and written communication.
• Highly preferred: hands-on experience with PrismHR, including processing payroll and validating payroll workflows.

Required skills

• Manual testing, regression testing, test case design and execution.
• Agile testing practices and use of QA and project management tools.
• Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and validation.
• Preferred: Jira, Azure DevOps, test automation exposure, benefits administration knowledge, and defect tracking tools.
