Reconciliations Accountant (6-Month Contract)

About the role

A leading non-profit research institution in Nairobi, recruited through Summit Recruitment & Search, is looking for a Reconciliations Accountant for a 6-month contract. The role supports a major financial reconciliation and clean-up, focusing on executing complex account reconciliations under the close guidance of external auditors and resolving historical accounting discrepancies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex reconciliations across multiple accounts, including Balance Sheet accounts and grant accounts.
• Identify outstanding variances and reconcile multi-currency transactions, investigating discrepancies.
• Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the General Ledger and resolve mismatches.
• Clean and validate financial data to support accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation for audit review.
• Work closely with external auditors, implement tasks according to agreed priorities, escalate unresolved issues and give regular progress updates.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure all reconciliations are fully documented.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• Able to focus on detailed reconciliation work without losing accuracy.
• Strong work ethic, able to handle high volumes of reconciliation tasks and meet tight deadlines.
• Able to work collaboratively under close guidance.
