Regional Head, Nature Finance and Strategic Investments

About the role

The Regional Head, Nature Finance and Strategic Investments will lead IUCN’s efforts to mobilise and channel finance toward nature‑positive outcomes across Eastern and Southern Africa. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role combines strategic investment leadership with deep understanding of climate, biodiversity and sustainable development objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement innovative financing mechanisms that align with the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, AU Agenda 2063 and related regional strategies.
• Adapt existing finance tools and develop new investment products to attract private‑sector capital for conservation and climate mitigation projects.
• Engage and advise investors, governments, NGOs and private‑sector partners on risk mitigation, impact measurement and portfolio alignment with nature‑positive goals.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge products to support policy makers in integrating nature finance into national and regional development plans.
• Represent IUCN ESARO in high‑level forums, working groups and stakeholder platforms to promote nature‑based investment opportunities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in finance, investment or capital markets, preferably with a focus on environmental, climate or biodiversity‑related projects.
• Proven track record of developing and scaling financing solutions in emerging markets.
• Strong understanding of international environmental policies, biodiversity frameworks and sustainable development goals.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to influence diverse audiences.
• Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering results in a regional context.
