Research Assistant – Clinical and Community Health Studies

About the role

KEMRI is seeking entry‑level Research Assistants to support health research projects in Nairobi and Isiolo. The role involves direct interaction with study participants and rigorous data management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear study information, screen participants, obtain informed consent, and document consent procedures.
• Administer questionnaires, psychological assessments, and collect data using encrypted electronic devices.
• Conduct qualitative interviews, including focus‑group discussions and in‑depth interviews.
• Maintain accurate participant records, ensure confidentiality, and prepare periodic field reports.
• Support monitoring, quality assurance, and compliance activities in line with study protocols and ethical standards.

Required profile

• Diploma in Nursing, Psychology, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Community Health or related field.
• Experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection; mental‑health or vulnerable‑population experience is a plus.
• Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subjects Protection (HSP) preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using digital data‑collection tools such as REDCap.
