Research & Development Technical Assistant (Agriculture)

About the role

The client, an international leader in post‑harvest solutions for the floriculture industry, is looking for an R&D Technical Assistant to support cut‑flower trials, data collection and reporting in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, monitor and evaluate cut‑flower trials in the Vase Life Room and Controlled Atmosphere facilities, following research protocols.
• Conduct routine observations, collect accurate data, maintain photographic records and manage experiments using PlantScout.
• Analyse trial data and prepare clear technical reports.
• Coordinate trial requests and testing schedules with Technical Consultants, maintaining an updated planner.
• Organise collection of flower samples from farms and ensure all materials and equipment are ready for trials.
• Monitor laboratory equipment (nitrogen and oxygen gauges, cooling systems) and report any faults.
• Maintain accurate research records, uphold laboratory safety and cleanliness, and support customer visits and technical demonstrations.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Crop Science, Agriculture, Biological Sciences or a related field.
• Preferably at least 3 years of experience in horticulture, floriculture, agricultural research, laboratory operations or crop trials.
• Experience with cut‑flower handling, post‑harvest research or vase‑life testing is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PlantScout software for experiment management.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Word, for data handling and reporting.
