Restaurant Manager

About the role

Open Kanvases Africa Limited (OKAL) is recruiting a full-time, on-site Restaurant Manager based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The manager oversees daily restaurant operations, manages staff schedules, monitors service standards and keeps the venue clean, safe and welcoming for guests. The role reports to the General Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise front-of-house and food and beverage service, coordinate with kitchen teams and ensure menus are delivered consistently and efficiently
• Handle customer inquiries and feedback, resolve service issues, manage reservations and maintain high customer satisfaction
• Take part in hiring and onboarding, train team members and monitor inventory and supplies
• Support basic financial controls such as cost management and prepare weekly performance reports for the General Manager and Accountant
• Review invoices and transfers in the Materials Control (MC) system to ensure accurate department costs
• Analyze weekly sales trends to find revenue opportunities such as Happy Hours and corporate packages
• Enforce strict HACCP and hygiene standards in the dining and bar areas
• Liaise with the Marketing Department on seasonal events, promotions, social media and advertising efforts

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management or a related field
• Valid Food Handler's/Safety certificate and knowledge of liquor licensing laws
• Minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory role in a high-end restaurant or lounge
• Experience with hiring, interviewing, onboarding and basic people management
• Strong customer service skills, including guest feedback and service recovery

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of food and beverage operations, menu understanding and basic food safety
• Proficiency in point of sale (POS) systems, inventory software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Understanding of P&L statements, inventory management and cost control
