Safety Program Manager

About the role

The Safety Program Manager supports the Safety Director in overseeing the Safety Management System for the Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center. This senior‑level position ensures the safety of personnel, contractors, and facilities across Navy installations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Safety Director in managing all aspects of the command’s Safety Management System (SMS).
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee special safety projects and community meetings.
• Manage portions of the Mishap Prevention and Hazard Abatement (MPHA) project to correct hazards at Navy facilities.
• Participate in workshops, conferences, and training courses for professional development and to stay current with safety best practices.
• Coordinate investigations involving personnel incidents or damage to government property.

Required profile

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NT‑02 pay band (GS‑05 through GS‑11) in federal service or comparable private/public sector experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing high‑risk safety programs such as confined space, hazardous energy control, fall protection, and weight‑handling equipment.
• Proven ability to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations and other safety programs.
• Experience conducting investigations related to personnel safety and government property damage.

Required skills
