Sales Team Leader – Modern Trade

About the role

Our client, a leading FMCG food company, is looking for an experienced Sales Team Leader to drive growth in modern trade channels across the Central Region of Kenya. The role focuses on expanding market share, strengthening retail partnerships, and delivering exceptional customer service while meeting ambitious sales targets.

Key responsibilities

• Drive sales growth across supermarkets, hypermarkets and other modern trade outlets.
• Develop and implement strategies to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual targets.
• Identify new business opportunities and negotiate product listings.
• Monitor competitor activity and recommend actions to maintain market leadership.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with modern trade customers.
• Plan and execute in‑store promotions, product activations and ensure merchandising compliance.
• Collaborate with marketing, supply chain, finance and other functions to ensure seamless operations.
• Prepare accurate sales reports, forecasts and KPI dashboards.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in modern trade sales within the FMCG sector.
• Proven track record managing large retail chains and key accounts.
• Strong communication, negotiation and relationship‑management abilities.
• Customer‑focused, innovative and results‑oriented mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Sales Customer Relationship Management (SCRM) systems (preferred).
