Seasonal Field Maintenance Worker

About the role

The Sandy City Fire Department is seeking a Seasonal Field Maintenance Worker to support urban‑interface thinning and fuel‑break creation. Working under the Fire Captain/Engineering Boss, you will join a part‑time crew to help protect the community from wildfire risk.

Key responsibilities

• Perform vegetation thinning and fuel‑break construction in designated urban‑interface areas.
• Operate weed eaters and hand tools safely and efficiently.
• Maintain and care for all equipment, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
• Assist in preparing written reports on work performed.
• Follow safety protocols and use discretion in emergency situations.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Valid Utah driver’s license or learner’s permit.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Basic problem‑solving skills and ability to work well with the public and city personnel.

Required skills

• Weed eater operation.
• Hand tool maintenance.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $17.00.
