Security and Safety Communications Intern

About the role

The Security and Safety Communications Intern will support UN Women’s Security and Safety Services team in Nairobi, helping develop and deliver communication products that raise awareness of security and safety among staff, aligned with the UN Security Management System.

Key responsibilities

• Support the identification, development and delivery of person‑centered security and safety communications.
• Liaise with internal units, divisions and sections to gather information and ensure alignment with the Security and Safety Services work plan.
• Coordinate with the UN Department of Safety and Security and other UNSMS partners to produce robust communication materials.
• Assist in implementing the internal security and safety communications roadmap, including the creation of gender‑sensitive content.
• Contribute to the development of tools, policies and training materials that promote a culture of security and safety.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in or recent graduation from a university programme related to communications, journalism, public relations or a similar field.
• Strong interest in security management, gender issues and international development.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
