Senior AI Platform Engineer (Cloud)

About the role

Absa Group’s Chief Data Analytics and Applied AI Office (CDAIO) is seeking a technically exceptional Senior AI Platform Engineer (Cloud) to design, build, operate and continuously optimise a multi‑cloud AI infrastructure that powers the bank’s enterprise AI capability across four business units and ten countries.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operate enterprise‑grade, multi‑cloud AI platform services using AWS Bedrock, Databricks AI, Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, Hugging Face and GPU clusters.
• Own AI FinOps, develop cost models, charge‑back/show‑back frameworks and deliver monthly cost‑per‑use‑case reports to Group Finance.
• Implement platform observability, define AI‑specific SLA standards and manage incident response for 43 live AI projects.
• Architect zero‑trust security controls for AI workloads and ensure compliance with Absa’s risk management, architecture standards and Responsible AI policy.
• Collaborate in an agile team, communicate trade‑offs to senior business and finance stakeholders, and mentor others to build platform capability.

Required profile

• Deep technical mastery of cloud AI infrastructure and AI FinOps.
• Strong commercial fluency to govern compute costs at enterprise scale.
• Experience delivering secure, observable, and highly available AI platforms in a regulated banking environment.
• Proven ability to work in agile teams and influence senior stakeholders.
