Senior Legal Officer

About the role

Pesapal, a leading African payment services provider, is seeking a proactive and commercially‑minded Senior Legal Officer. The role focuses on dispute resolution, litigation, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance and providing strategic legal advice to support the business’s growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage litigation, claims, disputes and other legal matters, ensuring timely progress and resolution.
• Lead recovery efforts for chargebacks, merchant debts, outstanding receivables and other financial claims.
• Draft, issue and track demand letters, settlement agreements, repayment arrangements and statutory notices.
• Engage merchants, counterparties, external counsel and other stakeholders to facilitate dispute resolution and recovery.
• Assess matters for escalation to litigation, arbitration, enforcement or other legal actions.
• Monitor external counsel performance, ensuring cost‑effective and timely handling of legal matters.
• Maintain accurate trackers for litigation, recovery and other legal cases.

Required profile

• Proactive, detail‑oriented professional with strong commercial acumen.
• Extensive experience in litigation, dispute resolution and commercial contract management.
• Ability to work closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to payment services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
