Senior Manager, Credit and Analytics

About the role

M-KOPA, a fintech company serving 10 million customers across Sub-Saharan Africa with a credit book of over $2 billion, is hiring a Senior Manager, Credit and Analytics in Nairobi. As the company grows from 5 million to 7 million customers, the role owns the outcome of credit performance: diagnostics of deterioration, pricing of payment plans and BI that guides the business. Recommendations go directly to the Managing Director, the General Manager and the Kenya Leadership Team, and the manager spends time in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Run weekly, monthly and quarterly credit reporting, lead the portfolio review with fraud and collections input, and lead responses when performance slips
• Represent credit on regulatory matters and lead credit bureau decisions
• Pricing payment plans so sales can grow while credit stays healthy, testing credit assumptions behind new plans and forecasting unit economics
• Own BI delivery for Kenya, set data quality and metric standards, partner with data and engineering teams and coach the team

Required profile

• Seasoned record in credit risk and portfolio performance, ideally in consumer lending or PAYGO in emerging markets
• Proven experience leading BI or analytics delivery and directing analysts and managers, with influence at GM and executive level
• A quantitative degree is preferred; a postgraduate qualification or designation such as CFA, ACCA, CPA or FRM is a welcome bonus
• Ability to bring Credit, Sales and Finance together around a single outcome, write analysis executives read, and coach people to focus on results

• Designing experiments and turning results into recommendations senior leaders act on

The role is demanding, with credit performance as the headline measure, and involves real time in the field. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and pre-employment background checks are carried out.
