About the role

The Senior Officer – Cyber Secure by Design will embed security into Safaricom’s products, platforms and services before go‑live, supporting the security assurance programme and providing rapid, high‑quality assurance reports.

Key responsibilities

Conduct periodic security reviews, vulnerability assessments and penetration tests across all systems and infrastructure.
Ensure new and existing solutions comply with ISO 27001, CIS, Kenya Data Protection Act and internal security policies.
Drive bug bounty remediation, manage red‑team exercises and support DevSecOps pipeline security.
Define cyber‑security metrics, report on compliance and follow up with system owners to close identified risks.
Deliver knowledge‑share sessions on emerging threats, bug‑bounty findings and offensive‑security techniques.

Required profile

Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, IT or related technical field.
Minimum 3 years experience in information systems security, networking and web/mobile application security.
Experience working in agile squads/tribes and driving security automation.
Excellent communication, analytical and report‑writing skills.

Required skills

Security certifications such as CEH, CISSP, CISM, CISA, GIAC, OSCP.
Networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCSP) and OS knowledge (Windows, Linux/Unix).
Proficiency with ethical‑hacking tools: Kali Linux, Metasploit, Nexpose, Nessus, Nmap, Burp Suite.
Hands‑on experience with Java, Python, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Apache, Nginx, IIS.
Familiarity with databases (Oracle, MSSQL, MongoDB, Postgres) and container/orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware).
DevSecOps tooling experience: Jenkins, Jira, GitHub, GitLab.
