Senior Principal Trainer I (STCW)

About the role

Bandari Maritime Academy in Nairobi is recruiting a Senior Principal Trainer I (STCW) to lead its Maritime Education and Training (MET) function. The post reports to the Senior Deputy Director Maritime Education Training and is permanent and pensionable.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate, formulate and implement institutional policies and strategies for MET
• Design, develop and deliver capacity-building and training programmes in line with STCW requirements
• Coordinate instructional materials, curriculum and syllabus development, and practical sessions, trade projects and business plans
• Supervise and mentor trainers and trainees
• Coordinate setting, administration and marking of examinations and assessments
• Advise on training standards and STCW compliance
• Design staff development programmes and appraise staff, coordinating performance management
• Liaise with clients and industry stakeholders and prepare operational and training reports

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from a recognised university
• Valid Certificate of Competency under STCW 1978 (Second Engineer III/2 or Chief Mate II/2); Kenya Maritime Authority approval is an added advantage
• 15 years of cumulative relevant experience, including 3 years at Senior Principal Trainer II (MET) or a comparable grade
• Competence-based assessment certificate and pedagogical skills training certificate from a recognised institution
• A 4-week leadership course and membership of a relevant professional body are advantages
• Proficiency in computer applications and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010

What we offer

• Basic salary of Kshs. 165,700 to 315,000 per month
• House allowance of Kshs. 35,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 20,000 and leave allowance of Kshs. 10,000
• Permanent, pensionable terms of service
