Senior Scientist – Human Demography & Epidemiology

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) seeks a senior scientist to lead research on human demography and epidemiology, supporting forest governance and natural resource management initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums related to forest governance.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social science research across multiple regions.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and secure donor funding for research projects.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Demonstrated success working with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and multiple partners in developing countries.
