About the role

The Senior Transportation Routing Specialist leads the routing team, overseeing daily operations and ensuring efficient transportation routing for students and programs. This role provides vision, manages staff performance, and coordinates scheduling to meet peak demand periods.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the routing team and overall routing process.
• Supervise routing staff, assign work, balance regional team loads, and coordinate leave rotations.
• Develop short‑ and long‑range plans to meet program needs while optimizing resources.
• Resolve complex routing issues, determine when contracted transportation is required, and represent the department in meetings.
• Provide resource projections for program changes and ensure appropriate staff availability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Extensive experience in scheduling, routing, inspection, and operation of school transportation programs.
• Proven ability to lead and evaluate staff, applying established professional growth systems.
• Strong understanding of local street systems, fleet utilization, and MCPS program requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows operating system.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
