Ship to Shore (STS) Gantry Operator – Mombasa

About the role

The Ship to Shore (STS) Gantry Operator works in a fast‑paced marine terminal, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading of containers using gantry cranes. The position requires strict adherence to safety standards and continuous operation across shift changes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate crane controls to manage speed and direction for safe container handling.
• Verify load balance and secure spreaders before movement to prevent injury or damage.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑operation inspections of the STS crane and report any abnormalities.
• Maintain continuous crane operation during shift handovers and operator breaks.
• Perform basic first‑line maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Complete job reports after each operation and keep the operator cabin tidy.

Required profile

• KCSE C‑ (Minus) or equivalent.
• Valid NTSA driving licence (Class B, C, E) with forklift endorsement.
• Gantry Crane Operator Certificate plus at least one of: Terminal Tractor, Top Loader, or Winch Crane Operations Certificate.
• Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably within Kenya Ports Authority facilities.
• Physically and medically fit; intermediate ICT competence for computerized crane systems.
