Special Education Itinerant Teacher – Behavior Support (PEP)

About the role

The Montgomery County Public Schools seeks an itinerant Special Education Teacher to provide behavior support within the Preschool Education Program (PEP). Reporting to the school principal and special education supervisor, you will deliver direct instruction, collaborate with general‑education teachers, and travel to multiple PEP sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general‑education teachers to align instruction.
• Monitor and evaluate student outcomes and assist in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Travel to PEP school locations and support staff addressing significant behavior concerns.
• Write Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and develop strategies for classroom success.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as required.
• Complete MCPS‑provided courses on behavioral management and non‑violent crisis intervention.

Required profile

• Experience or certification in behavioral approaches and coaching with young children.
• Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP processes, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, and research‑based reading instruction.
• Familiarity with ESSA, IDEA, and state/federal special‑education policies.
• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and families.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to adapt instructional materials.
