Student Career & Welfare Officer

About the role

Bandari Maritime Academy in Nairobi is recruiting a Student Career & Welfare Officer (permanent and pensionable) who reports to the Senior Student Career and Welfare Officer. The role supports students' career development and welfare, and covers counseling, career guidance, work-study programs and student mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel students on career choices, resume writing, interview techniques and job search strategies
• Connect students with internships, attachments, volunteering and full-time jobs in the public and private sectors
• Organize career fairs, workshops and career talks by industry professionals
• Analyze employment trends and employer demands to advise students
• Handle emotional, social and psychological needs, including counseling
• Train students in leadership, stress management, conflict resolution and self-awareness
• Manage work-study programs, financial aid services, disability support and student mentorship
• Handle student discipline and welfare issues and act as liaison between students and university administration

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, education, management or social sciences, or equivalent
• Previous experience in student affairs, human resources or career coaching is an added advantage

Required skills

• Strong communication and counseling skills
• Proficiency in career planning tools

What we offer

• Basic salary of Kshs. 42,500 to 80,000 per month
• House allowance of Kshs. 10,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 12,000 and annual leave allowance of Kshs. 4,000
• Permanent and pensionable terms of service
