Study Nurse – Clinical Research (Kenya)

About the role

The University of Washington Kenya Research Care and Training Program is seeking four Study Nurses to support a hybrid effectiveness‑implementation trial evaluating telehealth‑enhanced pharmacy‑based PrEP and PEP delivery. The position is based in Kisumu and lasts for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, screen, obtain informed consent, enroll, and retain study participants in line with the protocol, SOPs and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
• Provide comprehensive counseling on HIV prevention, STI prevention, contraception, adherence to study products and risk‑reduction strategies.
• Administer study questionnaires, collect demographic, behavioral and clinical data using approved tools.
• Coordinate follow‑up visits, send appointment reminders, trace participants and implement retention activities.
• Accurately complete source documents, case report forms (CRFs), screening and enrollment logs, and enter data into REDCap and other study databases.
• Monitor and report adverse events, protocol deviations, social harms and safety concerns.
• Collaborate with laboratory, pharmacy, qualitative research, data management and clinical teams to ensure smooth study implementation.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or equivalent qualification with experience in clinical research or public health.
• Familiarity with HIV prevention, STI counseling and reproductive health services.
• Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with REDCap electronic data capture system.
• Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
