Tax Accountant

About the role

A client of The Partnership Agency is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Tax Accountant based in Nairobi. The role covers the accurate computation, timely filing and payment of taxes, ensures compliance with tax laws, mitigates tax risks and provides tax planning advice to support the company's financial health.

Key responsibilities

• Compute corporate and deferred taxes quarterly and annually, advising on tax expense, effective tax rate and analysis for the financial statements.
• Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns by statutory deadlines.
• Compile and submit monthly withholding tax and VAT payments in line with the Income Tax Act.
• Prepare monthly tax account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items on time.
• Monitor tax exposure through regular compliance checks and obtain a Tax Compliance Certificate.
• Provide tax planning advice to minimise tax costs and mitigate emerging tax risks.
• Maintain tax records, including master files of computations and correspondence with the Revenue Authority.
• Cultivate relationships with the Kenya Revenue Authority and other stakeholders, and ensure smooth tax audits.
• Ensure month-end tax procedures, including Oracle tax payments and journals, and timely cancellation of bonds.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
• Qualified as CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
• Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
• High integrity and confidentiality.

Required skills

• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, accounting software and databases.
