Tax Team Leader

About the role

A Tax Team Leader is needed in Nairobi to advise clients on direct and indirect taxation issues such as PAYE, income tax, withholding tax, corporate tax, VAT, CGT and customs tax, and to cover tax planning, compliance, audits and appeals. The role also includes supervising and mentoring staff and interns.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on tax planning and compliance, and represent them in tax audits, compliance checks and investigations, including handling objections and appeals
• Conduct internal and external training
• Provide transfer pricing advisory services
• Prepare briefs on current tax developments and changes in tax legislation
• Supervise, train and mentor staff and interns; review tax computations and returns prepared by staff and recommend accuracy and tax-saving improvements
• Prepare complex tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships and corporations
• Work proactively with key clients to gather information, resolve tax problems and suggest business and process improvements
• Keep the Tax Watch newsletter up to date and perform other related duties

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Law, Economics or a business-related discipline
• Full CPA (K) or ACCA qualification
• At least 4 years in audit and 2 years representing clients in tax disputes with KRA, with evidence of representing at least 5 clients
• Diploma or postgraduate diploma in tax (KESRA) is an added advantage
• Attention to detail, analytical thinking, good communication, leadership, proactivity and ability to handle pressure
