Tea Self-Propelled Harvester (SPH) Mechanic

About the role

The Tea Self-Propelled Harvester (SPH) Mechanic will ensure that the fleet of self-propelled tea harvesters in Nyamira County remains available, reliable and efficient throughout the harvesting season. Working on-site, you will carry out preventive maintenance, rapid field repairs and support operators to minimise downtime and maximise harvest productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance on SPHs, including engines, hydraulics, cutting, blower and crawling systems.
• Diagnose and fix field breakdowns quickly to minimise harvesting downtime.
• Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and cutting mechanisms.
• Support harvesting teams on‑site and advise operators on proper machine handling and daily checks.
• Conduct root cause analysis on repeat failures and implement corrective actions.
• Enforce HSE compliance and ensure machines are safe before deployment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, checklists, service logs and support asset care/PM systems.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical, Agricultural or Automotive Engineering.
• 3–5 years hands‑on experience maintaining agricultural machinery, preferably in tea plantation operations.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, mechanical drives and moving systems.
• Ability to diagnose faults quickly and work responsively in field conditions.
• Team‑oriented mindset with operators and field supervisors.
