Technical Specialist – Natural Resource Management (NRM) Project

About the role

The Technical Specialist – NRM will lead the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of sustainable land‑use and forestry interventions that generate verified carbon credits, restore degraded landscapes and improve livelihoods across project sites in Kenya.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Community Forest Associations for high‑quality seedling production and tree planting management plans.
• Oversee nursery operations, seed sourcing, quality control and seedling survival monitoring.
• Collaborate with MRV specialists to design forest inventory protocols, establish permanent sample plots and track carbon and biodiversity metrics.
• Supervise site preparation, planting, maintenance and ensure compliance with silvicultural and agroforestry best practices.
• Develop and review Participatory Forest Management Plans with community groups and Kenya Forest Service.
• Lead capacity‑building workshops and training modules for staff, partners and local stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience in forest landscape restoration, silviculture or agroforestry project management.
• Strong understanding of climate‑adaptive forestry, native species selection, soil health and ecological monitoring.
• Experience working with government agencies and community structures on ecosystem restoration.

Required skills

• Forest inventory data collection, growth‑and‑yield modelling and biomass estimation.
• Proficiency with GIS tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
• Knowledge of carbon certification standards (VCS, Gold Standard, REDD+, CCB).
• Technical expertise in nursery management, seedling production and silvicultural practices.
