Technical Specialist – NRM Landscape Restoration

About the role

The Technical Specialist – NRM will lead the design, planning and implementation of sustainable land‑use and forestry interventions that restore degraded landscapes, generate verified carbon credits and improve livelihoods across project sites in Kenya.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Community Forest Associations for high‑quality seedling production, tree planting plans and silvicultural practices.
• Oversee nursery operations, seed sourcing, quality control and the logistics of planting material delivery to restoration sites.
• Collaborate with MRV specialists to design forest inventory protocols, establish permanent sample plots and monitor carbon and biodiversity metrics.
• Supervise field implementation, ensure compliance with monitoring and evaluation standards, and prepare technical reports and project design documents.
• Facilitate capacity‑building workshops and develop training modules for staff, community members and partner NGOs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in forest landscape restoration, silviculture or agroforestry project management.
• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Agroforestry, Climate Change or a related field.
• Experience working with government and community structures and implementing integrated ecosystem restoration programmes.

Required skills

• Forest inventory data collection, growth‑and‑yield modelling and biomass estimation.
• Proficiency with GIS tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
• Knowledge of carbon certification standards (VCS, Gold Standard, REDD+, Plan Vivo).
• Technical expertise in nursery management, seedling production and silvicultural practices.
• Strong ability to deliver technical training and capacity‑building workshops.
