University Librarian

About the role

The University Librarian will lead the planning, budgeting, staffing and overall management of the university library, ensuring it serves as a vital repository of academic resources and supports scholarly activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, budget and staff the library in coordination with Human Capital and infrastructural development offices.
• Develop, implement and enforce library policies and standards.
• Coordinate all library services, including acquisition, conservation, and provision of a conducive reading environment.
• Establish and manage the e‑Library and facilitate networking with local and international libraries.
• Set technical standards for all library branches and oversee centralized services.
• Perform other duties as delegated by the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor for Academic, Research and Student Affairs.

Required profile

• Doctorate degree in Library and Information Sciences or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in the relevant field, three publications since the last promotion, and at least five years’ experience as a Senior Librarian.
• Membership in at least one recognized professional body.
• Computer literacy with demonstrable practical experience.
• Outstanding leadership, coordination and organizational abilities at senior management level.
