Yard Marshal – Logistics Operations

About the role

The Yard Marshal ensures safe, efficient, and disciplined vehicle and pedestrian movements within DHL Supply Chain yards in Kenya. This role combines traffic control, risk mitigation, and coaching to support on‑time dispatch, asset protection and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise fuel off‑loading into the bowser, sign‑off for quality and manage fueling from 6:00 am, including weekends and public holidays.
• Monitor and control truck flow in and out of the Kasarani yard, enforcing one‑way traffic, safe coupling/decoupling and reversing procedures.
• Isolate parking areas for loaded and empty trailers, coordinate vehicle movements to car‑wash and ensure compliance with pedestrian safety rules.
• Verify pre‑trip checklists, ensure trucks have valid county permits and redirect mechanically faulty vehicles to workshops.
• Provide feedback to both DHL and subcontracted drivers to drive continuous improvement.
• Enforce yard safety standards, standard operating procedures and HSE policies.

Required profile

• Strong awareness of safety and risk mitigation in a high‑traffic yard environment.
• Ability to coach drivers and enforce compliance with yard rules.
• Good communication skills to liaise with operations teams and external partners.
• Reliability to maintain a frequent presence on the floor and respond to incidents promptly.

Required skills

• Fuel handling and off‑loading procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle coupling, decoupling and reversing safety practices.
• Understanding of pre‑trip inspection checklists and permit verification.
