Year-End Accountant (SMEs)

About the role

A fast-growing CPA firm based in Nairobi is looking for a Year-End Accountant to support its work with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), both locally and internationally. The role covers year-end financial reporting, corporate tax compliance and bookkeeping review, and requires strong communication skills, especially with overseas clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory year-end accounts for a portfolio of SME clients and reconcile general ledgers
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations covering fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, payroll liabilities, inter-company and VAT accounts, in line with IFRS and Kenyan GAAP
• Prepare and submit corporate tax returns (e.g. IT2C) under KRA rules, calculate deferred tax and handle tax queries, audits and compliance issues with clients and KRA
• Review and clean up bookkeeping records from QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or Excel, reconstruct records where needed and reconcile bank accounts and ledgers
• Act as main point of contact for year-end clients, communicate with international clients (UK, US, EU) and lead virtual meetings on results, tax implications and timelines
• Maintain workflow and client communication documentation in practice management tools such as Karbon or AccountancyManager

Required profile

• CPA-K, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a CPA firm or audit environment working with SMEs
• In-depth knowledge of year-end reporting, tax filing and balance sheet reconciliations
• Experience reviewing or correcting bookkeeping done by third parties
• Desirable: exposure to international clients, especially from English-speaking markets

Required skills

• Proficiency with cloud-based accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Xero and Zoho Books
• Understanding of foreign exchange revaluations and multi-currency accounting (desirable)
