Assistant Branch Manager – Supermarket (Nairobi)

About the role

Emerge Egress Consulting is seeking a proactive Assistant Branch Manager to support the daily operations of a busy supermarket in Nairobi. The role focuses on driving sales, maintaining high standards of customer service, and ensuring efficient stock control.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Branch Manager in overseeing daily store operations to ensure efficiency and profitability.
• Assist in achieving sales targets through planning, monitoring, and execution of strategies.
• Supervise merchandising, customer service, cash handling, and stock management.
• Maintain proper stock control practices, including ordering, rotation, and loss minimisation.
• Identify slow‑moving products and recommend corrective actions.
• Guide, supervise and motivate staff to enhance productivity and service delivery.
• Assist with staff scheduling, performance monitoring and team discipline.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in stock counts, reconciliation processes and procurement coordination.
• Monitor branch expenses, contribute to budget tracking and reporting.
• Analyse sales patterns and customer trends to support business decisions.
• Maintain high standards of store presentation and customer experience.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in retail or supermarket branch management.
• Strong knowledge of inventory control, procurement and retail operations.
• Leadership, commercial awareness and analytical thinking.
• High integrity, accountability and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer‑focused approach.

Required skills

• Experience with SAGE or similar retail management systems.
