Associate Manager – Sustainable Finance

About the role

Systemiq is seeking an Associate Manager to join its Sustainable Finance practice in Nairobi, Kenya. The role focuses on public and development finance, leading advisory projects that shape sovereign financing strategies for climate, nature, and development priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex workstreams and day‑to‑day delivery of advisory projects.
• Manage small project teams, including Associates, Analysts and external experts.
• Structure ambiguous problems into clear workplans, analysis and client‑ready outputs.
• Develop high‑quality strategy decks, technical notes, briefing papers and senior stakeholder materials.
• Design and assess financing approaches such as concessional finance, blended finance, sustainability‑linked bonds, debt‑for‑climate swaps and risk‑sharing structures.
• Engage with ministries, debt management offices, central banks, IFIs/DFIs, donors and private‑sector partners.
• Facilitate workshops, consultations and convenings with senior stakeholders.
• Support proposal development, thought leadership and knowledge building within the Sustainable Finance team.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing complex advisory engagements in finance or development sectors.
• Ability to work confidently with senior government, donor and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in macro‑economic and financial analysis.
• Excellent communication skills for high‑level stakeholder materials.
