Country Director – Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda

About the role

TechnoServe is seeking a senior leader to head its operations in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Based in Nairobi, the Country Director will shape the strategic direction of the organization’s economic development programmes across the three markets, ensuring high‑impact delivery and representing TechnoServe to donors, partners and governments.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a business development strategy that aligns with global and regional priorities, building a pipeline of new programmes.
• Oversee a portfolio of eight multi‑year projects with a combined annual budget of over $6 million.
• Lead a team of roughly 94 staff, fostering operational excellence, effective monitoring and learning.
• Maintain and deepen relationships with bilateral, multilateral, private foundation and corporate donors.
• Identify and pursue growth opportunities in Tanzania and Uganda while consolidating impact in Kenya.
• Represent TechnoServe in high‑level stakeholder engagements, advocacy and public communications.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in development, agriculture, or related sectors, preferably in East Africa.
• Proven track record of managing large, donor‑funded programmes and budgets.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities with donors, governments and private sector partners.
