Coxswain

About the role

The Coxswain will operate and navigate boats supporting a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe transport of passengers and cargo, maintains vessel readiness, and complies with maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate various watercraft, handling docking and mooring safely.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust plans as needed.
• Maintain navigation and communication equipment and adhere to maritime laws.
• Coordinate with port authorities, other vessels, and manage emergency situations, including rescues.
• Keep accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.
• Provide customer service, conduct safety drills, and assist with loading and unloading cargo or luggage.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or similar role.
• Qualified per NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• At least 48 hours hands‑on experience operating deep‑sea fishing boats in Diego Garcia.
• Ability to swim and hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Valid boat operator’s license or certification and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to pass contract medical requirements.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain required facility credentials.
