English & Literature Teacher – Year 7 to Year 11

About the role
We are seeking a dynamic English & Literature Teacher to join our Westlands campus in Nairobi. The successful candidate will teach Year 7 to Year 11 students, delivering the curriculum with enthusiasm and fostering a love for reading, writing and critical analysis.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English and Literature lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and academic standards.
- Develop students’ proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening while nurturing appreciation for a wide range of literary texts.
- Teach novels, poetry, drama and non‑fiction appropriate to each year group.
- Design activities that enhance critical thinking, interpretation, communication and creative writing skills.
- Prepare, administer and mark assessments, providing constructive feedback to support student progress.
- Create an inclusive, stimulating classroom environment that encourages discussion and a love for literature.
- Organise and support extracurricular programmes such as reading clubs, literary societies, debating, creative writing and drama.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school‑wide initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance and academic performance.
- Participate in departmental meetings, parent engagements and professional development activities.
Required profile
- Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenya.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literature or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience within an international curriculum.
- Proven experience teaching English and Literature to Year 7‑Year 11 students.
- Strong knowledge of English and Literature curriculum, assessment and instructional practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective classroom management and analytical abilities.
- Ability to inspire students and use innovative teaching approaches.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration and cultural sensitivity skills.
- Passion for teaching and commitment to student development.
