Finance Manager – Kenya, Somalia & Ethiopia (Kenyan Nationals only)

About the role

The Finance Manager will lead the operational financial management of the Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia programmes, ensuring robust accounting, budgeting and reporting in line with donor and organisational requirements. Reporting to the Finance Coordinator, the role provides strategic financial support to programme and operational teams and safeguards sound financial stewardship across the mission.

Key responsibilities

• Manage preparation and maintenance of financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, inventories, budgets, fixed assets and donor reports.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, timely reconciliations and proper allocation of expenses to projects and cost centres.
• Coordinate multi‑annual planning, budget preparation, monitoring and variance analysis, providing timely financial insights to support decision‑making.
• Supervise cash and treasury management, including bank reconciliations, cash forecasts, and secure payment of salaries, suppliers and statutory obligations.
• Ensure compliance with Johanniter financial guidelines, donor requirements and national regulations, implementing internal controls to prevent fraud and misuse.
• Lead, supervise and develop the finance team, establishing work plans, conducting performance management and addressing capacity gaps.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in managing finance operations for multi‑country programmes, with strong knowledge of donor compliance and financial reporting standards.
• Proven leadership ability to supervise and develop finance staff, fostering an inclusive and accountable work environment.
• Experience overseeing cash, treasury and payment processes, ensuring accurate coding, documentation and timely disbursements.
