About the role
The school seeks a dynamic Head of Department for Languages to lead the Languages faculty across all key stages, following the Cambridge Curriculum. The role blends academic leadership, classroom teaching, and pastoral care as a class teacher.
Key responsibilities
- Lead planning, delivery and evaluation of the Languages curriculum (English, Kiswahili, French) and Cambridge Global Perspectives.
- Ensure alignment with Cambridge Assessment International Education standards.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment strategies for KS1‑KS3.
- Monitor teaching quality through observations, book reviews and feedback.
- Mentor and support language teachers, handling performance management and professional development.
- Organise departmental meetings and contribute to the school‑wide academic strategy.
- Teach English Literature and Global Perspectives across all key stages.
- Prepare learners for internal and external assessments such as Cambridge Checkpoint.
- Serve as a Key Stage 3 class teacher, overseeing academic progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with parents.
Required profile
- Proven experience in teaching English Literature, Global Perspectives and other language subjects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a language department and manage curriculum delivery.
- Strong pastoral skills to support student welfare and development.
