Head of Trading

About the role

The Head of Trading will lead Equity Bank Kenya’s trading desk, delivering innovative foreign exchange, fixed income, derivatives and commodity hedging solutions to institutional, corporate, SME and retail clients. The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on market‑making to drive growth and enhance the bank’s value proposition.

Key responsibilities

• Position the bank as a regional hub linking African FX, rates and commodity markets with global financial markets.
• Identify and pursue opportunities across FX, rates, fixed income and commodities, expanding the bank’s sales and structuring franchise.
• Manage day‑to‑day trading activities, including market‑making, risk monitoring and performance reporting.
• Develop tailored, market‑relevant solutions for corporate clients in agribusiness, energy, mining and other sectors.
• Strengthen client relationships and collaborate with the Group Treasury to align with overall strategy.
• Monitor performance against strategic targets and implement proactive controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading trading desks or similar senior roles within banking or financial services.
• Strong understanding of FX, fixed income, derivatives and commodity markets.
• Ability to design and structure complex financial solutions for diverse client segments.
• Strategic mindset with a focus on business growth and risk management.
