Home-based Psychiatrist Consultant (Remote)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks an experienced psychiatrist to provide mental‑health evaluations for clients undergoing immigration medical examinations. The position is home‑based, allowing the consultant to work remotely while supporting migration‑related health assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑person or tele‑consultation psychiatric evaluations for referred clients, including assessment of psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairments, brain injuries, and substance‑misuse issues.
• Prepare comprehensive clinical reports that include diagnosis, classification, travel‑fitness recommendations, and suggested treatment or stabilization measures.
• Collaborate with the Regional Health Assessment Programme Coordinator and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate medical escorting and resettlement support.
• Provide expert opinions on fitness‑to‑travel and assist in the development of individualized care plans for migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable populations.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in Psychiatry and at least seven years of relevant professional experience.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including severe mental illness and substance‑related disorders.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary settings or with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees.
• Prior experience preparing clinical reports and conducting fitness‑to‑travel assessments.
