Hospital Matron (Residential/Patient Welfare)

About the role

The Hospital Matron will oversee the residential and welfare areas of the hospital, ensuring a safe, orderly environment that supports patient recovery. Reporting to senior management, the role combines supervision of patients, coordination with clinical teams, and maintenance of facility standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise patients in wards and residential facilities, promoting discipline and adherence to hospital rules.
• Monitor patient welfare, promptly reporting concerns to the clinical team.
• Assist with patient admission, orientation, and compliance with scheduled activities, meals, and visiting hours.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in accommodation and common areas.
• Resolve minor disputes among patients and escalate serious issues to management.
• Record incidents, observations, and welfare issues accurately.
• Collaborate closely with nursing and other clinical staff to support overall patient well‑being.

Required profile

• Certificate or Diploma in Nursing, Community Health, Social Work, Psychology, Caregiving or a related field.
• Experience in hospital, rehabilitation centre, residential care or similar setting (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage people in a residential environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Compassionate, patient, emotionally mature and dependable.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and reside on‑site if required.
