About the role
The WHO‑AFRO IHR Secretariat is seeking a dedicated Support Staff member on a United Nations Volunteer (UNV) basis. Working under the direct supervision of the WHO‑IHR Contact Point, you will help maintain critical databases and support communication between WHO‑AFRO and Member States on International Health Regulations (IHR) matters.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and update databases of IHR National Focal Points, National IHR Authorities and regional experts.
- Assist in preparing reports, briefing notes and technical documents for the Secretariat.
- Track 24/7 communications on IHR‑related notifications between WHO‑AFRO and Member States.
- Provide technical and administrative support for capacity‑building activities, including workshops, trainings and simulation exercises.
- Monitor implementation of the IHR Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and track IHR Key Performance Indicators.
- Support the tracking of the Framework for the Implementation of the 2024 amendments to IHR 2005.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the IHR Contact Point.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health (essential); medical degree with IHR specialization is desirable.
- Minimum three years of experience in IHR implementation, public health emergency preparedness, or a related field.
- Experience with WHO, UN agencies, or intergovernmental organisations is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Ministries of Health or National Public Health Institutes in the IHR context is desirable.
