Lecturer in Pharmacognosy – Natural Products Drug Discovery

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Lecturer in Pharmacognosy to join the Bachelor of Pharmacy program at United States International University – Africa. The successful candidate will teach core pharmacognosy modules, supervise hands‑on laboratory work, and contribute to curriculum development and research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and assess student performance in Pharmacognosy courses.
• Supervise laboratory sessions covering phytochemical screening, extraction, isolation, and characterization of natural products.
• Develop and update laboratory manuals, course materials, and digital teaching content.
• Participate in curriculum review, program accreditation, and departmental meetings.
• Secure research grants, lead collaborative projects, and publish findings.
• Mentor undergraduate students in academic and research activities.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Dean.

Required profile

• B.Pharmacy with an M.Pharmacy in Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Natural Products) or a closely related field.
• PhD in Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline is a distinct advantage.
• Minimum three years of university‑level teaching experience in pharmacognosy or related subjects.
• Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board or equivalent professional body.
• Strong communication, mentorship, and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC).
• Experience with High‑Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
• Knowledge of Gas Chromatography‑Mass Spectrometry (GC‑MS).
• Competence in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
