Legal Officer (P3) – Environmental Law

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Legal Officer at the P3 level to join its Law Division, Environmental Governance section in Nairobi. Reporting to the Deputy Director and directly to the Head of Section, the incumbent will support UNEP’s mission to promote environmental rule of law and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance, capacity building and advisory services on environmental law and governance.
• Contribute to the implementation and periodic review of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) through the Montevideo Programme V.
• Support the Law Division’s role as secretariat for the Fifth Montevideo Programme and its flagship initiatives.
• Collaborate with other UNEP divisions and regional offices to advance legal technical assistance programmes, including those related to sustainability and circularity in textile value chains.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the Head of Section.
