Locum Nursing Officer – Medical Centre

About the role

The Aga Khan Medical Centre in Kisii is looking for a qualified Nursing Officer on a locum basis. The role involves delivering high‑quality nursing care, supporting the multidisciplinary team and ensuring patient safety in a fast‑growing health facility.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients, identify specific needs and develop appropriate care plans.
• Prioritise nursing care for critically ill patients based on assessment data.
• Maintain a safe environment by following infection‑control practices and performing regular safety checks.
• Document assessments, investigations, care provided, team discussions and patient/family interactions accurately and promptly.
• Participate in nursing education, quality‑improvement projects, audits, spot‑checks and skill assessments.
• Collect data and monitor departmental quality indicators.
• Conduct audits on infection‑prevention measures and address identified gaps.
• Uphold statutory regulations of the Nursing Council of Kenya and protect confidential information.

Required profile

• Diploma in KRN, KRM, KRCHN or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognised institution.
• Valid Kenyan nursing practice licence.
• Minimum two years of relevant nursing experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication abilities.
