Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) – Kenya

About the role

VALR, a fast‑growing global crypto exchange, is seeking a senior Money Laundering Reporting Officer to lead its AML/CTF compliance program in Kenya. You will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining robust anti‑money‑laundering policies that align with Kenyan law and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain AML/CTF/CPF policies and procedures in line with the Proceeds of Crime and Anti‑Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA) and related regulations.
• Submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Cash Transaction Reports (CTRs) to the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) within required timelines.
• Collaborate with senior management and operational teams to ensure effective AML controls across the business.
• Lead the preparation and coordination of regulatory responses and audits.
• Monitor emerging crypto‑asset regulations and adapt compliance frameworks accordingly.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of AML/CTF/CPF experience, including prior MLRO responsibilities.
• Experience within financial services or cryptocurrency sectors, preferably with a leading financial institution, VASP or payment service provider.
• Kenyan citizenship, permanent residency, or legal right to work in Kenya.
• Strong focus on regulatory compliance and ability to manage complex financial‑crime issues.
• Passion for cryptocurrency and up‑to‑date industry knowledge.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GoAML.
• Experience using Chainalysis or comparable cryptocurrency tracing software.
